Chief Scientist and Founder Jeff Haley is resolute that no Quest Products will reach the market without first being proven in clinical trials. We continue to seek collaborations with academic institutions, public funding agencies, corporate partnerships, and the dental and medical professional communities to develop innovative solutions for oral care.

Our flagship product, OraCoat® XyliMelts for dry mouth, is an all natural, great tasting, oral adhering disc that slowly releases an effective level of xylitol (550 mg) and oral lubricant to relieve dry mouth (xerostomia) day and night. XyliMelts are designed for use while sleeping when dry mouth is worst.

Many medications cause dry mouth, as does increasing age, mouth breathing while sleeping, use of CPAP machines for sleep apnea, Sjogren's Syndrome, and head and neck radiation therapy. The feeling of dry mouth is bad enough, but there are two health consequences that are even worse. XyliMelts is the only dry mouth solution that addresses either one.

(1) Xerostomia is worst at night and it disturbs sleep which reduces quality of life all day. XyliMelts increases saliva flow while sleeping. With XyliMelts patients sleep well at night.

(2) Xerostomia causes rampant caries. When fluoride is not enough or patients won't use it, XyliMelts should be used to deliver a sufficient level of xylitol into saliva while sleeping, when saliva flow is lowest. XyliMelts used while sleeping is the most effective delivery per gram of xylitol for caries control. Frequent between meal consumption of foods high in sugars and starches promotes tooth decay. Xylitol does not promote and may reduce the risk of tooth decay.

Clinical Study

A recent clinical study, "XyliMelts adhering discs for night-time oral dryness," published in the International Journal of Dental Hygiene, Volume 10, Issue 2, May 2012, Pages 118-121, J. Burgess and P. Lee concluded that the use of XyliMelts slow-release adhering discs while sleeping significantly improved perceived oral wetness upon awakening in the morning, and improved perceived discomfort for xerostomia.

What Healthcare Professionals Say

"Sufficient evidence exists to support the use of xylitol to reduce the risk of caries."

Kiet A. Ly, MD, MPH, University of Washington Department of Dental Public Health Sciences

"XyliMelts provide effective relief from dry mouth keeping oral tissue moist for an extended period of time. Its slow-release formula keeps the mouth pleasantly comfortable through the night..."

Anne N. Guignon RDH MPH

"Xylitol hard candy may help your dry mouth, but until recently there was not a product that helped keep the mouth moist during sleep. A clever new product termed XyliMelts is now available, designed to prevent dry mouth during sleep. To solve the problem of choking on a lozenge during sleep, XyliMelts has an adhering disc that sticks wherever you place it in the mouth. Just moisten the adhesive side, place it on the upper teeth or gums and allow the XyliMelts to dissolve while you are sleeping to stimulate saliva flow. My office has recommended XyliMelts to a few of our patients and so far the reviews have been positive."
